Humility

by

Mother Catherine Aurelia Caouette

In the name of the Most Precious Blood, I supplicate you to have at heart the practices, so sanctifying, of this sweet, amiable and necessary humility; of this virtue all too rare and which is nevertheless one of the essential fundamentals of religious perfection.

Children of the Cross, be in spirit and in truth faithful copies of a God despised for our love.  With eyes fixed upon this King of the humble and the little, know how to forget yourselves and to receive without uneasiness those humiliations which are the touchstone of true humility.  Yes, have a low opinion only of yourselves and be happy if others are preferred before you.

Simplicity, which proceeds from humility, forbids praising anyone with affectation, but commands treating everyone with politeness and deference, according to the dignity of each.

As it is easy to be deceived in the appreciation of persons and things, it is not expedient to express too promptly our opinion on every occasion.  It is contrary to humility and even to civility to interrupt those who are speaking, to correct them or contradict at every turn, as also to dispute.

Let us suffer with sweet and humble patience whatever might be impertinent, rude and faulty in those with whom we associate.

Let us be sufficiently self-forgetful to bear in silence and without fatiguing our Sisters, the infirmities, the little maladies and the aches and pains that weigh more or less on poor humanity.

My dear ones, instead of complaining in such cases, let us humbly accept the suffering that is to purify us offering all to God in union with Jesus in His Passion, to expiate, to make reparation and to save souls.

Did you know that bluebells are a symbol for humility?
